The Vietnam Trade Office in the US said that Vietnam is in the process of obtaining a permit to export avocado to the United States

As reported in Vietnamnews.vn, the Vietnam Trade Office in San Francisco (US) said avocados were mostly sold in big supermarkets with large volumes, so they must meet the high requirements of the US market. Avocado distribution companies must be responsible for controlling the stages of the supply chain, from production to distribution, while exporters must have sufficient quality certificates.

In order to enter the US market, avocados must comply with the minimum requirements of the regulations on maturity, colour and weight. Avocados must be intact, clean and without insects.

The organisation stated that small exporters, therefore, face many difficulties in entering this market due to lack of experience and linkages with supply chains. In fact, the method of transporting avocados from farms to the market is a major challenge.

It is said that Vietnam currently has many avocado varieties with harvest time almost all year round. Nevertheless, the quality of Vietnamese avocado is still low due to production limitations, including limitations on the application of science and technology to production, a fragmented scale of production, and a lack of branding and geographical indications.

Therefore, in order to export avocado to the US, exporters must ensure that they have quality certificates, to establish trust with supply chain partners through a clear commitment to quality and reliability of data in the execution of export contracts.
