Hai Duong’s dragon fruit certified for export

The northern province of Hai Duong, Vietnam now has 30 ha of dragon fruit cultivation officially granted a cultivation area code for export to the US, Australia and China

The Ministry of agriculture and rural development (MARD), Vietnam has agreed to grant three cultivation area codes for 30 hectares of Dai Uyen dragon fruit in Bach Dang commune, Kinh Mon town for export to the US, Australia and China after they were tested to be free of pesticide residues.

According to MARD, the plant protection department will send a notice to the competent authority after the ‘General administration of customs of China’ and the ‘US animal and plant health inspection service’ approve the growing area code.

Hai Duong dragon fruit is harvested from July to November. Chi Linh city has about 170 ha of dragon fruit, mainly in Hoang Hoa Tham, Bac An and Hoang Tien wards. Hai Duong currently has about 200 ha of dragon fruit, mainly grown in Kinh Mon town and Chi Linh city. They are mainly consumed in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

According to the Ministry, being granted a planting area code for export is a good sign for Hai Duong dragon fruit growers, opening up opportunities to improve economic efficiency for this fruit tree in the near future. Farmers hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will soon be controlled so that the consumption of dragon fruit will be more favourable.
