On 21 November, the US Embassy announced that Vice President Kamala Harris would be launching initiatives to support the Philippines in achieving food security and would also be deploying 5G technologies across the country

Together with the participation of the USAID and the US Department of State, the US Department of Agriculture will be initiating a food security dialogue with the Philippines to closely discuss the best practices for sustainability and innovation in the agriculture sector.

A report published by GMA News Online also mentioned that the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) would be providing a US$20mn loan to help the local organic coconut processor, Agri Exim Global Philippines Inc. to expand its processing facilities across the country, in turn supporting local farmers to build connections with global supply chains and customers, while also helping them to receive organic certification.

The US has also decided to increase Filipinos’ access to broadband internet, while at the same time speeding up and increasing the reliability of digital services in the country. This can be achieved through the partnership agreement between the US and the Philippine telecom operator Now Telecom. Moreover, the Vice President’s visit to the Philippines will prompt discussions to address numerous issues such as quality education, health resources, and common security challenges, among many more.
