South Korea, along with UN’s FAO, is planning to help develop fish farms in North Korea to help feed the latter’s population
According to South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Maritime Institute is expected to soon sign an agreement with the FAO to launch a joint study on the aquaculture industry in North Korea, reported Yonhap News Agency.
The two parties will study climate conditions in North Korea and find the best species for farming, and based on the outcome of the study, South Korea and the FAO will raise a US$26.5mn fund to help build new fish farms, the ministry added.
The aid, however, is likely be delivered by the FAO.
