Agritech intelligence firm Taranis raises US$30mn

Tel Aviv’s agricultural intelligence company Taranis-Visual Ltd has raised US$30mn in a series C round led by Vertex Growth, Asian conglomerate The Kuok Group, through its venture capital arm K3 Ventures and Japanese multinational Hitachi Group

Speaking with Calcalist, Taranis co-founder and CEO Ofir Schlam, the aim is to strengthen Taranis’ sales and marketing efforts,

Hock Chuan Tam, managing director of Vertex Growth, noted that the agritech market is set to see consolidation around imagery with a few strong players remaining.

Taranis’ solutions are helping growers, retailers, cooperatives and crop consultants to detect, analyse and treat crop issues at their earliest signs, thus taking required preventive measures over crop yield than ever before, Chuan Tam said.

Other participants in the round who brings Taranis’ total funding raised to date to US$60mn, include Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, iAngels, Gal Yarden, president of the EMEA division at drip-irrigation company Netafim Ltd., and existing investors Vertex Ventures Israel, Viola Group, Finistere Ventures LLC and equity crowdfunding company OurCrowd Ltd, reported the source.
