Philippines is among the top five countries that are seen to comprise a quarter of the world’s wheat imports over the next 10 years, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

OECD further forecasted that the Philippines, along with Egypt, Indonesia, Algeria and Brazil, would account for a combined share of around 25-27 per cent of the global supply for wheat until 2028.

This is in line with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) wheat report which has stated that the Philippines remains a top buyer of US wheat.

As the Southeast Asian country doesn't grow any wheat, wheat demand is expected to increase in 2019-20 in the Philippines, the USDA said earlier in March.

Philippines’ net import of US wheat was 123,700 mt for the week ended 4 July 2019, according to USDA.
