On 12 June, the Itbayat Garlic Farmers Producers Association successfully transported a total of 18,125 metric tons of garlic to the Sual Seaport in Pangasinan

This accomplishment was made possible through the joint efforts of the Department of Agriculture-Inspectorate and Enforcement (DA-IE) office and the Philippine Navy (PN).

In order to ensure the smooth delivery and consistent availability of various agricultural supplies and food items to the people of the Philippines, the DA and PN have formed a partnership to offer hauling and transport services.

The Fresh Buys Ph of Baguio City purchased the garlic produce, which amounted to P1.95mn (US$35,049). The shipment, which was loaded onto a PN sea vessel, consisted of 11,001 kg of large garlic, 5,407.5 kg of medium garlic, and 1,716 kg of small garlic.

James Layug, assistant secretary of the DA and head of DA-IE, emphasised the Department's commitment to initiating collaborative projects with other agencies. These endeavours aim to enhance the lives and livelihoods of Filipino farmers and fishers throughout the country.

“We will continue to strengthen our Market Linkage Programme,” he said, adding that DA-IE will act as a liaison for the federal, state, and local governments. “If all stakeholders in this industry work together, this will be feasible.”
