Production levels in the Philippines poultry and pig farming sectors has risen in Q1 2015

A recently released report by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has showed that the levels of hog production in the country have risen by 3.8 per cent, with poultry output up by an even larger 5.3 per cent in Q1 this year.

Hog production for the first three months stood at 499,890 tonnes, rising from 481,710 tonnes the previous year.

The average farm price for live pigs for the period actually slipped to US$2.20 from US$2.22 a year before but, despite this, the higher volume still led to a 2.9 per cent increase in the sector’s production value, which reached US$1.1bn in Q1.

Meanwhile, chicken meat production also saw an increase of 5.3 per cent, reaching 414,180 tonnes from 393,410 tonnes the previous year.

Similarly, despite a 3.4 per cent drop in average farm prices, the higher chicken meat output pulled up industry production value by 1.7 per cent to US$782.18mn in Q1.
