At the conference programme held on 9 March at VIV Asia 2023, Wang Xu, Head of Gut Health Solution at Evonik Animal Nutrition, highlighted the benefits of Ecobiol Fizz, a soluble probiotic tablet which evenly distributes spores in water, without biofilm formation or clogging in water tanks and drinking lines
One of the most crucial factors to consider for sustainable and profitable poultry production is gut health and the challenges associated with it. Making the transition to antibiotic-free production while sustaining a balanced intestinal microbiota could also prove to be a challenge.
Stressors such as feed changes, pathogens or vaccinations can negatively impact a bird’s overall health, with medication having potential damaging effects on the microbial balance and gastrointestinal tract. This creates a necessity for natural alternatives such as probiotics.
Ecobiol Fizz is a soluble tablet designed for water line systems, containing naturally occurring Bacillus amyloliquefaciens that rapidly proliferates. The effervescent tablet has the ability to restore microbial balance swiftly, especially during stressful periods. When consistently applied to the water line system, it enhances the effectiveness of feed probiotics, leading to better animal health and sustainable production without the use of antibiotics.

Product Application and compatibility
Ecobiol Fizz can be applied either continuously or intermittently. Continuous application gives a stable and constant dosage of the product to maintain intestinal microbial balance over the whole production cycle. Intermittent application on the other hand, enables flexible usage to tackle specific periods where animals are exposed to stressors.
The product is also compatible when used together with various products within 24 hours. Hence, the addition of organic acid mixtures, vitamin premixes and plant extracts at a dosage of 1ml/L, has no negative impact on Ecobiol Fizz. Moreover, the product is compatible with hydrogen peroxide concentrations used for drinking water disinfection.
Field trials were also carried out in Thailand and the UK to highlight the benefits of Ecobiol Fizz. Results from the validation trial conducted at a commercial farm in the UK show the use of the tablet in the water line during feed transition periods for three days, allowing a ROI of US$5.84 over the control group. This economic success is mainly due to lower mortality, hock burn and pododermatitis, but also fewer rejections at the slaughterhouse.
