Hy-Line International has launched a breeding programme in India for the Hy-Line W-80, which is set to be a unique Indian variety

As reported in The Poultry Site, Dr Petek Settar, Hy-Line International’s senior geneticist, who is leading the breeding programme in India, said that this genetics programme has great potential to feed the growing population, noted the source.

In the programme, the birds in India are evaluated on their ability to achieve the preferred local egg size, egg numbers, long persistency of lay and the ideal onset of lay, with a continued commitment to superior shell quality late into lay, the source explained.

Hy-Line International’s breeding programme in India is in line with meeting the increasing demand of growing egg consumption. Additionally, the programme focuses on sustainable egg production in the country.

The first genetics is set to be released to the market in early 2020. Srinivasa Farms, distributor of Hy-Line International, will supply the orders.
