As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) announced a series of new developments and initiatives including the formation of a new global team, inauguration of a new research centre and the recent conversion of its global headquarters to solar power

The formation of a new global team dedicated to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), to be led by Michael Gomes as vice president, was announced. “Sustainability has long been a part of the fabric of Topcon and is something we take very seriously as we take actions to support our global initiatives,” said Gomes. “As we look ahead, we’ll endeavor to support, at every level, the advancement of the industries and communities we serve.
Topcon Research and Validation Centre
Topcon has inaugurated a new 60-acre Research and Validation Centre at its global headquarters in Livermore, California, further highlighting its dedication to sustainability. Strategically planned in collaboration with students and faculty from the BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the site will support the increasing needs for research and validation of new technologies. This new facility joins global validation centres in Concordia, Italy, and Adelaide, Australia, all working on research and validation of innovative precision technologies.
Move to solar power
Another recent initiative is the conversion of TPS’s Livermore-based global headquarters to solar power. The project which is currently underway, will ensure that the multiple buildings, manufacturing facilities and electric car charging stations present within the campus will be powered by solar energy, thereby reducing their Scope 2 emissions and energy costs.
